Fulbari, Jun 29 (Siliguri Journal) – A tragic incident occurred in Rangalivita, Putimari, under Fulbari II Gram Panchayat, where a 15-year-old girl, Mallika Roy, took her own life after reportedly being scolded by her father. Mallika was a ninth-grade student.
Family sources revealed that Mallika’s father, Madan Roy, often returned home drunk and caused disturbances, which led to her mother leaving the family a year ago. Since then, Mallika lived with her father and grandparents but often spent nights at her uncle’s house. On Saturday morning, Madan Roy, once again intoxicated, scolded Mallika. Shortly after, she was found hanging in their home.
Officials from the New Jalpaiguri police station responded to the scene, recovered the body, and sent it to North Bengal Medical College and Hospital (NBMCH) for a post-mortem examination. An investigation into the incident has been initiated.
