Body of Missing Man Discovered in Fulbari Mahananda Barrage; Family Alleges Murder by Friends

Fulbari, August 19 (Siliguri Journal) – A tragic incident has unfolded in Fulbari, where the body of Gautam Das, who went missing under mysterious circumstances during a trip with friends, was discovered at Lockgate No. 01 of the Mahananda Barrage. His body was recovered five days after he was last seen.

Gautam Das, a resident of Durga Das Colony in Siliguri’s Ward No. 20, had left for a trip to the Teesta Canal area in Fulbari on August 14, traveling with five friends in an e-rickshaw. Shortly after departing, Gautam called his wife, stating that two of his friends were assaulting him. The call was abruptly cut off, and his phone was subsequently switched off.

Concerned for his safety, Gautam’s family quickly filed a complaint at the New Jalpaiguri (NJP) Police Station. In response, the police launched an investigation and arrested the five friends who had accompanied Gautam on the trip.

A search operation was launched by the disaster management team and NJP police in the Teesta Canal following Gautam Das’s disappearance. On the evening of August 18, locals discovered a body floating in the Mahananda Barrage in Fulbari. After being notified, police and Gautam’s family quickly arrived at the scene and identified the body as that of Gautam Das.

Gautam’s family has accused his friends of murdering him and disposing of his body in the water, demanding strict punishment for those responsible. The police have sent the body for a post-mortem examination and have initiated a thorough investigation into the case.
