Mayor Gautam Deb visits mourning family of child succumbs to dengue in Siliguri. 23 July 2024.

Siliguri, Jul 23 (Siliguri Journal) – A child in Siliguri has tragically died from dengue. In response, Siliguri Mayor Gautam Deb, along with Deputy Mayor Ranjan Sarkar and other officials, visited the grieving family. On Tuesday morning, the Mayor visited their home in Swami Nagar, Ward No. 07, to offer condolences and speak with the relatives.

It is worth noting that the child was admitted to a nursing home last Saturday and diagnosed with dengue after an examination. Despite receiving treatment, the child passed away on Sunday.

Expressing his sorrow, Mayor Gautam Deb said the incident is deeply saddening. The family has alleged that the death was due to medical negligence. A medical team has been formed to investigate, and an emergency meeting has been scheduled for today to address the matter. The Mayor emphasized ongoing efforts by the Municipal Corporation to raise dengue awareness and clear stagnant water in various areas to prevent further cases. The health department will conduct a thorough review and submit a report.

Amit Jain, the leader of the opposition in the Siliguri Municipal Corporation, criticized the corporation’s handling of the situation. He stated that the corporation has failed to properly engage its employees, leading to widespread water accumulation. Jain mentioned that he had repeatedly brought this issue to the corporation’s attention, but his concerns were ignored.
