Individual Arrested for Attempted Rhino Horn Smuggling to Nepal in Naxalbari

Authorities launch joint operation, arrest smuggler with 1.025 kg rhino horn at Satbhaiya toll plaza, Naxalbari. Broader investigation underway to dismantle trafficking network.

Naxalbari, Jun 23 (Siliguri Journal) – In a major victory against wildlife trafficking, authorities have arrested a smuggler trying to illegally transport a rhinoceros horn into Nepal. The suspect, Ajit Kumar Singh, is a resident of Manipur.

Acting on a tip-off, a joint operation by the 41st battalion of the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) and the Tukriajhar forest department led to a raid at Satbhaiya toll plaza in Naxalbari. The raid resulted in the arrest of the suspect. During the search, authorities recovered a rhinoceros horn weighing 1.025 kilograms from the individual.

Following the arrest, the rhino horn will be sent to the Zoological Survey of India for further analysis. The incident has triggered a broader investigation, implicating several others in the wildlife trafficking network. Authorities plan to intensify their efforts to dismantle the entire smuggling ring by interrogating Ajit Kumar Singh further.
