Jaldapara Forest Department Initiates Tree-Top Plantation Drive for Greening Efforts

Alipurduar, August 10 (Siliguri Journal) – In a major step toward environmental conservation, the Jaldapara National Park Authority has launched a tree-top plantation drive to boost the forest’s greenery. This innovative approach, introduced during the Van Mahotsav festival in the monsoon season, involves planting saplings on the branches of mature trees.

Foresters are confident that this innovative approach will spark a “green revolution” within the park. The saplings, once planted, are secured to tree branches with earthen mounds and jute sacks. This year, around 200 saplings have been planted across different areas of the park, including North, East, West, Chilapata, and Kodalbasti. Their growth and development will be closely monitored using a GPS system.

The forest department has announced plans to extend this effort, with additional saplings scheduled for planting in the coming weeks.
