Newly Built Drain Collapses in Rajganj, Residents Blame Poor Quality Work

Collapse of newly built drain in Rajganj sparks outrage, locals blame poor construction quality. Administration and ruling party accuse responsible agency of negligence.

Rajganj, Jul 08 (Siliguri Journal) – Just three months after the completion of a major drainage project in Rajganj, part of the newly constructed drain has collapsed. This has sparked outrage among local residents and businessmen, who allege that poor-quality construction work is to blame.

Reports indicate that the drainage project, along with a paved road, was launched ahead of the Lok Sabha polls in Rajganj Bazar, with an estimated budget of Rs 5 crore. However, a significant portion of the drain near the Rajganj Sri Sangha Club Maidan collapsed on Monday. This incident has prompted locals to raise concerns about the quality of the construction work.

Local sources revealed that the construction of the drain began about three months ago, causing inconvenience to businesses and residents during its progress. The collapse has now exacerbated the challenges faced by commuters.

In response, the local administration and members of the ruling party have accused the construction agency of negligence. They have placed full responsibility for the collapse of the newly constructed drain on the officials of the construction department.
