Siliguri, Nov 25 (Siliguri Journal) – In Siliguri, a troubling scam took place, targeting folks aspiring to own a home. They were deceived out of lakhs of rupees under the guise of affordable house construction through EMIs. The alleged culprit, Ujjal Chaki from Ashram Para in Ward No. 14 of Siliguri Municipal Corporation, has been arrested in connection with the incident.
Reports suggest that Ujjal Chaki collected funds from individuals, promising them homes through EMI-based schemes. Allegedly, he received money over the years under the premise of constructing houses but failed to deliver as assured. As doubts arose, the victims conducted an inquiry and discovered the deception. On November 18, they filed a fraud complaint against Ujjal at the Pradhan Nagar Police Station.
Following the complaint, Pradhan Nagar police, working in conjunction with Siliguri Police Station, launched an investigation leading to the apprehension of Ujjal Chaki in the Children Park area. The complainants have requested police assistance in recovering their financial losses.
