Siliguri, Nov 27 (Siliguri Journal) – In a notable development, authorities from the Ashighar Outpost, under the jurisdiction of Bhaktinagar police station, conducted an operation near Tharughati at Sahu River Bridge adjacent to Baikunthapur forest. Two individuals, identified as Sanjay Singh and Padma Singh, residents of Naxalbari, were apprehended during the operation for possession of banned cough syrup. The police also successfully retrieved the motorcycle used in connection with the incident.
As per information from police sources, the individuals, Sanjay Singh and Padma Singh, were reportedly on a motorcycle with the intention to sell prohibited substances. Acting on a tip-off, law enforcement took the suspects into custody on suspicion. A subsequent search led to the discovery of 50 bottles of banned cough syrup in their possession, resulting in the arrest of both individuals.
According to police sources, the estimated market value of the confiscated cough syrup is around 11 thousand rupees. The arrested individuals, allegedly engaged in the illegal trade for an extended period, are scheduled to appear before Jalpaiguri Court on Tuesday. Presently, the police are actively involved in conducting a thorough investigation into the incident.
